Christine Peterson, MSW, PCSW
Hello Sweetwater County! I am a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist and a provisionally licensed Social Worker. I earned my Master of Social Work degree from Louisiana State University in May 2024. I earned my Bachelor of Science degrees from The University of Utah in Sociology and Child Development and Family Studies in May 2001. I enjoy working with a variety of ages, including adults and teens. My passion lies in teaching my clients how to use the power of their own nervous system to regulate their emotions and attune to their own foundational needs for healing and growth. I have lived in Green River for over twenty years with my husband and four children. My family is growing, as my eldest son is married. In the warm months you can find me on a paddle board or enjoying the sunshine on a walk with my dog Bailey. All year long you can find me on a yoga mat instructing and practicing the art of mind body connection.
If you are seeking services for your child you may expect to meet with me for a free one hour consultation. We will explore what is happening in your child’s world and I will explain the magic of Synergetic Play Therapy and together we will decide if we are a good fit. Within the play room I am going to attune with your child, name emotions, tie those emotions into the body, and then model regulation. This sequence will teach your child emotional regulation so that when they are outside of the playroom, they have the capacity to navigate challenging situations and avoid overwhelm. Your child’s first language is play and this is how they make sense of their world. The play allows your child to access past experiences that felt like too much and have now become areas of concern. The neuroception of safety that the child experiences with the therapist in the playroom, allows them to go into those memory centers and process past experiences so that they are no longer problematic. In addition to play, I use a variety of tools to support your child including sand tray work, artwork, bilateral movements, and biofeedback. As we partner together in the therapeutic process, you will receive parent coaching and support at your own sessions, and together we will help your child learn how to overcome challenges, regulate, and ultimately find empowerment and healing.
If you are seeking out services for a teen or an adult, I will begin by building a relationship, as relationship is the cornerstone of all healing and growth. We will explore areas that need healing as well as learn skills to practice outside of session so that you or your teen can navigate challenges and practice emotional regulation. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and use those models for processing past experiences that felt like too much and are interfering with your quality of life. EMDR and ART are effective therapeutic models that use bilateral eye movements and other bilateral techniques to guide clients through a series of images and sensations to allow for integration and healing. I believe that all humans have the potential to heal and to grow when given the right environment, with effective tools, within a therapeutic relationship.
